Dr. William Kalsbeek
 |
William D. Kalsbeek
Ph.D. is a professor in the department of Biostatistics and
director of the
Survey Research Unit. A fellow of the
American Statistical Association, Bill’s professional interests
include, but
are not limited to, the practice, teaching, and study of health survey
research
methods, with particular emphasis on the joint roles of costs and
statistical
efficacy in survey design, sampling of elusive populations, and survey
non-response. The origin of these
interests
stems from his broad exposure to the survey practice through the dozens
of
sample surveys for which he has provided direction, design, or
significant
statistical consultation, during his professional career.
He has
|
served as sampling statistician or
advisor on many of the major national surveys,
in the U.S., and
has designed samples for
several
international health surveys, including those in Indonesia, Somalia, Jordan,
Egypt,
Honduras,
and Russia. Much of Bill’s professional efforts since
1990 have been tied to his work as director of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Survey
Research Unit, which he helped established within the UNC-Chapel Hill
School of
Public Health.
